Yoko jumped up and down, pointing at each plate andreminiscing about her own personal encounters. Yoko told me we shouldgo see The Odd, who were playing across town. Their farewell concert. Thatwas where everyone was headed tonight. And, sure enough, there they were.Glen and Jeff and Ryan and the gang, and even Jim Meyer, my editor from Request,all hugging Yoko. It was like a going away party for Yoko instead of theband. For the occasion, the Odd's guitarist wore a red boa. The drummer,a Kiss t-shirt. The lead singer, in a silver astronaut jacket and black shorts, with a sock in his jock, was yelling, "Can we turn up the lights? Because you all look so fucking beautiful." They flew into a song about wet, wetpussy and when they were done, the crowd exploded, Yoke included. "Fromnow on," the singer said, "every gig is our last gig."
They launched into "Gonna Eat You Out," which inspired the keyboardist to pound the organ with his tongue, then pulla Jim Morrisom - sort of - and stick his finger out through his fly. Yokolaughed, but seemed a little confused. Her musical cultural references didn'tstretch back that far. I looked over at Ryan. He shrugged and gave me aknowing look. We had no energy left to translate. When I got back to NewYork. . ."
